 Halfetti black rose is also known as "Arab bride" or "Arab beauty".

Careful harvesting of Turkey’s famous and most rare roses begins in May, preparing to ship across the country and around the world.

The "black rose" of Halfetti, a small village in the southeastern province of Sunliurfa, is known for its unique color and aroma. Although there has been a long-standing debate about whether there can be a natural rose in that ink shade, looking at photos from greenhouses quickly is more than enough evidence. When the roses bloom, a rich, wine-red color begins to appear on the petals of the rose, but as buds, they are black like a leaf. It is the soil that gives these roses their unique color and unique aroma.

Halfetti, which was selected as a "slow city" by the coordinating committee of Citaslow International in 2013, has been described as the region's "hidden paradise" with its historic stone houses and beautiful landscapes, of which roses are only a fraction. Due to its unique geographical features, breathtaking black roses can only be grown in the city of Halfetti, where thousands can be harvested in late spring and early summer.

A few years ago, Halfetti's District Collector, Municipality and the District Directorate of Agriculture and Forestry arranged for the construction of three greenhouses to show the glory of black roses and their dark beauty. Halfetti is in an ecological balance due to the Pyresik Dam leaving some parts of the district underwater.

Their subtle harvest is continued by trained staff, who carefully cut them and let them dry, then revive them in the form of tea, Turkish delight and spices.

Harvesting and drying of black roses takes place in greenhouses in Halfetti, Sunliurfa, Turkey. At full bloom, the petals of black roses turn into a deep wine shade. The black rose blooms only in spring and autumn. It blooms black at first, but after a while it changes its color to dark red. However, it only changes this black color in half box.

"Black roses" only grow if they have three main features. “The black rose derives its color and aroma from the climatic features of Halfetti, the waters of the Euphrates River, and the soil characteristics of the region.

Black roses bloom in six to seven weeks. When it turns into a rose bud, it turns black before opening, and after they are hung and completely dried, Turkish delights and perfumes are made from its flowers.
